Patience

 Today, I had an interesting episode to share with you. Since I have to take an autorickshaw to finish my works. Nothing was confirmed in the Ola, as they were charging more than the meter. So I have to take a normal Auto (prepared myself that I have to pay a lot) informing about my places of visits. To my shock, he was so humble. Since I was new to Coimbatore, I was a bit confused about the directions. But still, he was patient to listen to me, and in a polite way, he was giving suggestions. At last, I finished all my work and came back home. To my surprise, he was very reasonable and he enquired about his drive & was as asking about the feedback. I was taken back by his way of approach to his customer. I took his number & shared it with my known circle.

As an HR, I look out for patience as 1 of the 6 qualities while recruiting a candidate. Where he/she can succeed in their professional and personal growth. The 6 qualities are 

Patience - where he or she has the ability to endure an unpleasant situation.

Trustworthy

Multitasking skills

Ambitious

Team Player

Positive Attitude

Business Networking

Yesterday, I had an opportunity to meet some people at Coimbatore. It was a topic on "Business Networking". I had great learning, 

* Networking is very important for personal and professional growth.

*we have to retain the relationship by maintaining a good rapport through social media.

*They were able to explain with their experiences & how they were able to get benefited out of it.

*Collaboration is also a huge part of networking.

*Find a mentor.

*Keep attending some official gatherings & outings.

* Interact with others.

* Most important skill in Business Networking is Listening. Focusing on how you can help the person you are listening to rather than on how they can help you is the first step to establishing a mutually beneficial relationship. 

The benefit of Business Networking:

* Expanding your knowledge.

*Taking advantage and prior experience of others.

* Opportunity to help other people.

காரணப்பெயர்களின் தோரணங்கள் விளக்கங்கள் பிரமாதம்.
சென்னை இன்று மிகப்பெரிய மாநகரமாக விளங்க காரணம், பல சிறு சிறு கிராமங்களின் இணைவு தான். சிறுதுளி பெருவெள்ளம் என்பது போல் பல கிராமங்கள் இணைந்து சென்னை பிரமாண்டமாய் உருவெடுத்துள்ளது.
அப்படி இணைந்த கிராமங்களின் பெயர்கள் உருவானதின் பின்னணியை தெரிந்து கொள்வது சுவாரஸ்யமான ஒன்றே.

- 108 சக்தி ஸ்தலங்களில் 51வது ஊர். ஆகையால் ஐம்பத்து ஒன்றாம் ஊர் என்று அழைக்கப்பட்டு, பின்னாளில் இவ்வூர் அம்பத்தூர் என மாறியது.

- Armoured Vehicles And Depot of India என்பதின் சுருக்கமே ஆவடி(AVADI)

- chrome leather factory இப்பகுதியில் அதிக அளவில் இருந்ததால் இப்பகுதி குரோம்பேட்டை என அழைக்கப்படலாயிற்று.

- 17,18ம் நுற்றாண்டுகளில் நவாப் ஒருவரின் கட்டுப்பாட்டில் இருந்தது இப்பகுதி. அவருடைய குதிரைகளின் பசியை போக்கும் நந்தவனமாக இது விளங்கியதால், garden of horses என்னும் பொருள் படும் Ghoda bagh என்றுஉருது மொழியில் பெயர் வைத்தார். பின்னாளில் அதுவே கோடம்பாக்கமாக மாறியது.

- மகப்பேறு என்பதே மருவி முகப்பேர் ஆனது.

- தென்னை மரங்கள் நிரம்பிய பகுதி அது. ஆகையால் தென்னம்பேட்டை என பெயர் வைத்தார்கள். பிற்பாடு அது தேனாம்பேட்டையாக மாறிப்போனது.

- சையிது ஷா பேட்டை தான் சைதாபேட்டை என அழைக்கப்படுகிறது.

- முற்காலத்தில் வேதஸ்ரேணி என அழைக்கப்பட்டது தற்போதைய வேளச்சேரி.

- உருது வார்த்தையான che bage (six gardens என்பது இதன் பொருள்)  என்பதிலிருந்து உருவானது தான் சேப்பாக்கம்.

- சௌந்தர பாண்டியன் பஜார் என்பதின் சுருக்கமே பாண்டி பஜார்.

- கலைஞர் கருணாநிதி நகரை சுருக்கி கே.கே. நகர் என அழைக்கிறோம்.

- சிவபெருமானுக்கு உகந்த வில்வமரங்கள் அதிகம் இருந்ததால் மகாவில்வம் என அழைக்கப்பட்ட இப்பகுதி, பின்பு மாவில்வம் என்றாகி, காலப்போக்கில் எப்படியோ மாம்பலமாகி விட்டது.

- பல்லவர்கள் ஆட்சி செய்ததால் பல்லவபுரம் என்றழைக்கப்பட்ட இடம் தான் பல்லாவரம்.

- சென்னை மாகாண முதல்வராக இருந்த பனகல் ராஜாவின் நினைவாக இவ்விடம் பனகல் பார்க் என அழைக்கப்படுகிறது.

- நீதி கட்சி தலைவர் சர். பி.டி.தியாகராஜன் செட்டியின் பெயராலேயே இப்பகுதி தியாகராய நகர் என அழைக்கபடுகிறது (தி.நகர்)

- புரசை மரங்கள் மிகுதியாக இப்பகுதியில் இருந்ததால், இப்பகுதி புரசைவாக்கம் ஆனது.

- அதிக அளவில் மல்லிகை பூக்கள் பயிரிடப்பட்ட பகுதி இது. திருக்கச்சி நம்பி ஆழ்வார் தினமும் இங்கிருந்து பூக்களை பறித்துக்கொண்டு சென்று காஞ்சி வரதராஜபெருமாளை வழிபட்டுவந்தார். அதனால் இவ்விடம் சமஸ்கிருதத்தில் புஷ்பகவல்லி என்றும், தமிழில் பூவிருந்தவல்லி என்றும் அழைக்கப்படுகிறது. பின்னாளில் இது பூந்தமல்லியாக மாறியது. வல்லி என்பது தெய்வத்தை குறிக்கும் ஒரு பெயர்.

- 17ம் நூற்றாண்டில் இங்கு வாழ்ந்து வந்த ஒரு முஸ்லீம் துறவி 'குணங்குடி மஸ்தான் சாகிப்'. இவரது சொந்த ஊர் ராமநாதபுரம் மாவட்டத்தில் உள்ள தொண்டி. ஆகையால் அப்பகுதி மக்கள் அவரை தொண்டியார் என அழைத்தனர். அந்த ஏரியா தான் தற்போதைய தண்டயார்பேட்டை.

- முன்பு இப்பகுதி ஆடு மாடுகள் மேயும் திறந்தவெளியாக இருந்துள்ளது.அதனாலேயே மந்தைவெளி என்றழைக்கபடுகிறது.

- மயில் ஆர்ப்பரிக்கும் ஊர் என்பதே மயிலாப்பூர் என மாறிப்போனது.

- பல்லவர்கள் காலத்தில் போர்கள் நடத்த இவ்விடத்தையே பயன்படுத்தியதால், இப்பகுதி போரூர் எனப்படுகிறது.

- சில நூறு வருடங்களுக்கு முன்பு இப்பகுதி முழுவதும் மூங்கில் மரங்கள் இருந்தது. அதனாலேயே பெரம்பூர் எனப்படுகிறது.

- திரிசூல நாதர் ஆலயம் இருப்பதால் இந்த ஏரியா திரிசூலம் என்று அழைக்கப்படுகிறது.

- பார்த்தசாரதி கோவிலின் எதிர்ப்புறம் இருக்கும் குளத்தில் நிறைய அல்லிகள் பூக்கும். அதன் காரணமாக இப்பகுதிக்கு திருஅல்லிக்கேணி என பெயர் உருவாக்கி, பின்பு திருவல்லிக்கேணியாகி, தற்போது triplicane என மாற்றம் கண்டுள்ளது.

- தாமஸ் பாரி என்பவர் இப்பகுதில் வணிகம் செய்துவந்தார். மக்கள் மத்தியில் மிகவும் மதிப்பு பெற்றிருந்த அவரின் பெயராலேயே இப்பகுதி பாரிமுனை (பாரிஸ் கார்னர்) ஆனது.

The Miracle Stone

A man once read in an ancient book about a black stone on the shore of the Black sea, which could, on contact, turn any metal into gold.The stone would be warm to the touch.

So he went to the Black sea, and found there a heap of black stones. He was convinced one of these would be the miracle stone.

He picked up a stone, felt it on his cheek, found it cold, and flung it into the sea. The second stone too was cold, and followed the first one into the sea.He did this from morning to evening everyday doe days for days, weeks, months, then years.

Three years later, he put a stone to his cheek, and before realizing that it was warm, flung it into the sea.

Sunday Indian Express Magazine (4th March 2012) carries an article by Anika Mohla under the heading, "Why Faith without understanding fails".
The author has given a beautiful story (which was originally Paulo Coelho's) and the members could be interested in hearing to it.

"In the desert fruit was scarce. God called one of his prophets and ordered: each person may eat only one fruit per day.
His word was obeyed and it became the custom for many generations.
Ecology of the place improved and a lot of fruits remained uneaten.
Upon falling to the ground their seeds produced many more trees.
The region became fertile and neighboring villagers became envious.
Following their tradition, the villagers ate only one fruit per day and never allowed the neighbourers to take advantage of the abundant harvests.
The result was that the fruits rotted on the ground.
God called another prophet and said,"let them eat as much fruits as they want and let them share their abundance with others"
The prophet came to spread the new message.
But he was stoned because by now the custom was ingrained in the hearts and minds of the people.
With time, the younger villagers began questioning the barbaric old custom and elders were unbending.
The youths who abandoned the tradition ate as much fruits as they wanted.
People who remained faithful to the old tradition considered themselves as saints.
They were unable to see how the world changes and recognize how they must change with it".

THE LESSON IS CLEAR.

A long while ago, a great warrior faced a situation which made it necessary for him to make a decision which insured his success on the battlefield. He was about to send his armies against a powerful foe, whose men outnumbered his own. He loaded his soldiers into boats, sailed to the enemy's country, unloaded soldiers and equipment, then gave the order to burn the ships that had carried them. Addressing his men before the first battle, he said, "You see the boats going up in smoke. That means that we cannot leave these shores alive unless we win! We now have no choice--we win--or we perish! They won.

Every person who wins in any undertaking must be willing to burn his ships and cut all sources of retreat. Only by so doing can one be sure of maintaining that state of mind known as a BURNING DESIRE TO WIN, essential to success.

Some years ago the following exchange was broadcast on an Open University sociology TV programme.
An interviewer was talking to a female production-line worker in a biscuit factory. The dialogue went like this:
Interviewer: How long have you worked here?
Production Lady: Since I left school (probably about 15 years).
Interviewer: What do you do?
Production Lady: I take packets of biscuits off the conveyor belt and put them into cardboard boxes.
Interviewer: Have you always done the same job?
Production Lady: Yes.
Interviewer: Do you enjoy it?
Production Lady: Oooh Yes, it's great, everyone is so nice and friendly, we have a good laugh.
Interviewer (with a hint of disbelief): Really? Don't you find it a bit boring?
Production Lady: Oh no, sometimes they change the biscuits...
